The Mechanical display configuration turns on HVAC and piping objects, and turns off lights, receptacles and other electrical devices. In a combined file, this saves the steps of having to turn layers on and off repeatedly in a drawing.

Display configurations, representation sets, and object display properties are all defined in object files, as well as templates, but it is the current drawing that ultimately has control. The Display Options tab allows you to filter objects in a view by classification, so if you deselect a particular MvPart or Device type, it will not be displayed when that configuration is active, regardless of how many layers you attempt to turn on or off. The last Display Manager item is Representation by Object.
